What a title, right? Are you curious? ๐
No doubt you're wondering, who the heck is Moravia, right? ๐
Well, it's a part of Czechia, of course. Czechia is divided into three major regions with interesting names:
- Bohemia - named after the tribes who inhabited it (the Romans named it and the name stuck)
- Moravia - named after the Morava River (despite its less-than-pleasant brown color ๐ )
- Silesia - named after the mountain and river (surprise, surprise ๐)
And now, the name of the grandmother is... Opava! ๐ฒ๐ฒ
Yes, you heard it right. Opava is the grandmother of Czech Silesia. In her youth, she was in good health and was the largest and most important city in Czechia, but now her granddaughter Ostrava has taken her place. Nevertheless, Opava is still a somewhat important and sizable city with 55,000 inhabitants.
Seriously, what's there to see here?I would recommend visiting one of the parks. There are so many of them, it's hard to miss one. My personal favorite is the one with the bird hill. Basically, they have bird-shaped statues that move their heads – just amazing! ๐
Next up is definitely Time Square. The architecture is amazing, with Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance buildings. My absolute favorite is the Silesian Theatre, which is just breathtaking. If you're a fan of history, you should visit a museum, but let me warn you, it's not free, but still worth a visit. The planetarium is for all the astronomy fans out there – you can find it right next to the promenade!๐
Surprise, surprise, they have a lot of churches here. Yes, for the most atheistic country in Europe, Czechs sure have a lot of them all over the place. The Cathedral of St. Mary is not my cup of tea, if I'm being honest, but the Red Church is different and hence attractive to me. Even the most modern one blew me away with its stunning tower.
As for food, that's not a problem... if you like KFC or McDonald's๐
You can find both in the shopping mall called Breda. Yes, the name is Breda, my friends. ๐ Personally, I had their burger, fries, and Pepsi, and it was amazing. So, if you're a gourmet and want to go on a culinary adventure, go to Opava. In all seriousness, there are probably some good restaurants there, but I didn't visit any of them. Instead, I had the pleasure of indulging myself in their repertoire of coffee places and bakeries. I can recommend it – they have good coffee and pastries. I recommend the poppy rolls! ๐
So there you have it, from your favorite traveling son. Go visit the grandmother, enjoy Czechia, and tell me the places you think everyone should visit. ๐
With Love,
TP ๐
